I haven’t always been a South Florida public adjuster serving home and business owners. In fact, I started and spent much of my career as an independent adjuster, which allowed me to go out to properties, meet with the owners, assess the damage and reach an agreement. At the end of our interaction, the property owners and I would shake hands, and they could be quite sure that the agreement we had reached would be honored.
This was how the insurance industry used to work, until the early to mid-1980s. It was at that time that insurance companies found that they could save a great deal of money by reducing the amount of money paid out for claims as much as possible. As part of this process, they took much of the control away from independent adjusters (like me), and placed it into the hands of desk adjusters, who typically did not have the experience or expertise I had.
These changes were drastic, and they had a very negative effect on policyholders who needed to file insurance claims after damage occurred to their homes. Soon after this practice began to take hold, I went to work for a large insurance company. I witnessed the situation getting worse and worse, as this particular company would mistreat customers with long claim delays and low-balled insurance claim payouts. I rapidly became disenchanted with the entire industry.
After a few years, I decided that I would rather work for consumers rather than the insurance companies that were increasingly looking to cheat their customers out of as much compensation as possible. Since 2002, I have been dedicated to learning all that I can about insurance policy language, policy law, property damage and inspection. Property damage may be caused by many different issues, such as fire, hurricanes, tornadoes, hail, wind, water, plumbing issues, mold, collapse, cars hitting buildings and more — and it can happen to both residential and commercial properties.
As a South Florida public adjuster, I am highly experienced in understanding how to evaluate insurance claims from all the above issues, as well as the experts you should consult to properly represent your best interests, and not those of the insurance company. I also have a great deal of experience in the appraisal process, as I understand what it means to have a swift and fair process for the consumer.
In terms of certifications, I am licensed as a public adjuster in Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina, and also have a HAAG Roof Engineering certificate. I’m a member of the Wind Storm Insurance Network, and Florida Association of Public Insurance Adjusters. My company is also A rated with the better business bureau.
All of this is in an effort to be a better advocate for the policyholder, which I am proud to be for home and business owners across the state of Florida and beyond.
