Cut the Cost of your Florida Homeowner’s Insurance Policy

Let’s face it, everybody likes to save money whenever they can and homeowner’s insurance is no exception. Most people automatically renew their homeowner’s insurance if nothing has changed, but what if you could make changes to lower the cost of your Florida homeowner’s insurance, even if nothing has changed?

While you may not have moved or renovated since the last time you reviewed your Florida homeowner’s insurance policy, sometimes changes that can affect your costs do not come in the form of major changes; they come in the form of reviewing your coverage, checking changes to your home and life, and changing how you do what you do.

Here are three areas that you should look at if you are trying to cut the cost of your Florida homeowner’s insurance:

  • Check your coverage – Review your coverage and buy what you need. Read through your policy with your insurance agent and make sure that you have the coverage that fits your home, your location, and your needs. You might be paying for unnecessary coverage.
  • Check your deductible level – Homeowner’s insurance is not meant for small events, it is meant for catastrophes, such as: fires, water damage, vandalism, hurricanes, tornadoes, and anything that can cause significant damage to your property. If you can increase your deductible, you can most likely decrease your premium, sometimes drastically.
  • Security – Have you gotten a home security system installed to protect your home and personal property? Does your insurance company know about it? If not, you need to let them know since it may reduce the cost of your homeowner’s insurance.

Even if “nothing has changed” since you last renewed your homeowner’s insurance, if your agent does not offer you a discounted cost or coverage check, ask for one. Know your policy, know what is in it, and know what it covers. This can save you money as well as aggravation in the event that you need to make a claim.
