Hurricane Protection: Is it worth it?

It is well known that Florida is a hot spot for hurricanes. The geographical location of Florida mixed with the behavior of hurricanes and water temperatures make for hurricane heaven. There are a lot of factors that play into Florida being the hurricane heaven. One is that hurricanes usually start off the coast of the Sahara Desert, in northern Africa. Second is that hurricanes that occur in the northern hemisphere travel in a northwesterly manner. Hurricanes love warm water. Anything over 80 degrees Fahrenheit is conducive to their growth. In the Atlantic Ocean there is a Gulf Stream current that carries warm water all over the ocean. One of the main currents goes in a loop from the African coast to the coast of Florida, and then another one goes right up the east coast of the US. All of these spell trouble for the state of Florida. During hurricane season, if a hurricane forms off the coast of Africa, there is nothing that is going to stop it from plowing into the coast of Florida. So, now that you know the basics of hurricanes, is having hurricane protection worth it?

Well, that is a matter of opinion. But, seeing as there have been multiple storms within the past few decades that have been devastating to anyone it passes, some people would say that having hurricane protection is worth the money you spend on it. There are groups of people that study hurricanes and their movement, trying to predict whether there will be any large storms or not, when honestly it’s all a game of chance. You can’t predict whether or not a hurricane is going to form, and then there is really no way to predict where it is going to go. There is no way to say exactly when, where, and how hard Mother Nature is going to strike. That is why being protected is the best thing that you can do to prevent damage to your belongings.
