Insurance Tips on What is Bad Advice From the Insurance Industry

You probably would not be reading this blog if you or someone you know did not have an insurance claim issue. After all, insurance is boring and you can find better things to do with your time.

Road Flood

When a disaster occurs, like a hurricane, tornado, hail storm, or flood, the newspapers are full of bad advice. The messages often read: “Get three estimates from reputable contractors and check them out with the better business bureau.”  This media event is usually repeated by all the insurance companies, in tandem with the State Departments of Insurances, insurance agents, and other “in the pocket” consumer groups.  All these entities go along with the insurance industry offering you the same self-serving bad advice.

Smart people know that some advice is bad adviceand you can’t believe everything you read!

Think about the insurance options

Now ask yourself: Why would they be giving you bad advice?

The answer is simple: It helps the insurance world, and not you!

Let’s say you are energetic enough to find three contractors to write you a FREE estimate. Do you think the insurance company is going to pay you anything but the cheapest estimate? Do you really believe that contractors want to spend their time writing detailed and elaborate free estimates? Most contractors do not have the time, especially when work is bountiful, to write free estimates!

Most tradesmen do not have the necessary skills to write an insurance estimate in the format and detail, desired by the insurance world. Contractors cannot legally negotiate insurance claims!

Stop and think: Do these contractors referred by the insurance world, work for you, or them? What deals do they have set up with the insurance company who sent them?

Your insurance company sends out an adjuster to inspect your damages.  These adjusters are usually outsourced from a third party insurance adjusting company. They DO NOT WORK DIRECTLY for your insurance company! These adjusters are referred to as independent adjusters – but there is NOTHING INDEPENDENT about them. They take their orders from your insurance company and they get paid by the insurance company. Does this seem like it would be a fair, un-biased and impartial arrangement- FOR YOU?

It is an unethical practice, and sometimes illegal, when I hear that people’s insurance agent, or the insurance company representative, told them not to hire a public adjuster.
